Mercury Russian Brig 1812 - Victory Models 1:64
The Mercury is a 20 Gun Brig, famous in the Russian Navy for having survived an encounter against 2 heavily armed Turkish vessels (the Selimiye, 110 guns and the Realbei 74 guns) near the Strait of Bosphorus in May 1829. Under the command of Lt. Aleksandr Ivanovich Kazarsky and heavily damaged the Mercury was able to inflict significant damage on the bigger ships and evade pursuit by them. The Victory Models Kit ( by Amati) provides nicely laser cut ply with good quality woods and many photo-etched and cast details and includes cooper plating for the hull. The instructions are adequate but could be clearer in parts and the plans are comprehensive and extensive. It took about 12 months to complete the model.
